Twice a year I am surprised by the calendar. The first shock hits soon after Labor Day when the inevitable countdown to the holidays begins, culminating in December in a minimum two week bacchanale of self indulgence and excess. The second awakening happens soon after the holidays wind down. Now I am keenly aware of the calendar having shifted dramatically closer to the new season of DANCEworks, March 30-April 26. Time to shift gears! N. O. W. Accelerate>Exhilarate!
Here’s Our News!
Mark Dendy, our 2014 choreographer in residence, will be coming to Santa Barbara for a few days in February to begin to work with members of our community who are interested in performing with his company. This will give everyone a head start for the new work he will create during his DANCEworks residency in April. Please read Mark’s extensive bio to appreciate his impressive qualifications for this residency! The performance will be at the Lobero Theatre on April 26.

What you Should Know
1. Mark will be choreographing a new work called Dystopian Distractions! It will be a black comedic dance theatre piece about contemporary American culture, which will look at our American way of war contrasting with American celebrity, sport and media distractions.
2. If you would like to be a part of this, Mark has space for 20 plus adults to participate in the creation and performance of this work. This means attending necessary rehearsals as well as being available for the performance date, April 26, 8PM. Rehearsal dates are as follows:
***Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 15, 16. 10AM-2PM. Lobero Theatre
***Saturdays, April 5, 12, 19. Time TBD. Approx. 4 hours of rehearsals each Saturday.
3. Community participants should have some movement experience, but do NOT need to be trained dancers! Must be able to endure slow constant movements, as well as some standing gestural movement.
If you are an adult, can meet the qualifications above and would like to participate, please email: Sheila Caldwell, email@example.com. It’s most helpful if you let us know before the first rehearsal with Mark. Thanks for your understanding!
Hope you’re as excited as I am about what lies ahead. Get ready to love the creative genius of Mr. Blue Eyes!
