Celebrated for being provocative, witty, and engaging, Larry Keigwin’s 2010 DANCEworks residency was as full of energy and high-octane charge as he is.
His eight-person, New York company combines physicality with theatricality, samples a variety of mediums and, ultimately, fuses art with entertainment. Keigwin’s commissions include the New York City Ballet’s Choreographic Institute, Martha Graham Dance Company, and Juilliard Dance Ensemble, among others.
Keigwin’s original work, No Exit was created during his DANCEworks residency, and deeply influenced by the atmosphere of the space. Wherever No Exit is seen in the future and however it develops, it will remain a proud product of Santa Barbara. Also on the evening’s program were Keigwin’s Air and Triptych, along with a spirited re-staging of Bolero NYC specifically for Santa Barbara. Bolero Santa Barbara featured over 40 local dancers and non-dancers in an all-out joyful celebrations of all things Santa Barbara, including a hula hooper, an experienced belly dancer, a flamenco dancer, a skateboarder, and a dog that does a trick on cue.
